When is use of the CWU 27/P Nomex Flight Suit specified?

The Flight Suit should be worn for any military or civilian situation in which an individual is at high risk for fire or exposure to weapons that can burn the skin. The Nomex® fibers do not melt when exposed to high temperature. They form a self-extinguishing, protective layer when removed from flames. This layer resists abrasion and retains the majority of its pre-burned strength.
